Viña Andrico
Our Vineyard
The Uco Valley is a high elevation desert experiencing over 300 days of annual sunshine and very little rainfall. The rocky, alluvial soil of loam and clay provides excellent drainage and forces the roots of our vines to struggle to find water. The arid conditions keep pests and diseases to a minimum. Pure glacial water from the mountains fills our lakes which is the source of our drip irrigation system. This enables our agronomist, Andres, to precisely release water as needed.
Malbec requires four elements to thrive:
Continental Climate
Located 700 miles from the ocean
Desert-like Weather
Average of 200mm (8”) of natural rainfall per year
High Altitude
3,700’ elevation in the foothills of the Andes
Full Sun
Average of 310 bluebird days per year
Viña Andrico is located at the Vines of Mendoza. Contact us to arrange a private vineyard and winery tour.
Located at 3,600’ elevation in the foothills of the Andes, the difference between our day and night time temperatures averages 60 degrees F. This results in thicker skins, greater aromatics and vibrant coloring in the glass.
Natural Protective Barrier
The Andes
The Andes act as a natural barrier protecting our vineyard from the maritime climate of the Pacific Ocean. As the sun rises in the east, the mountains to the west of our vineyard serve as a backdrop, enabling our vines to capture intense sunlight.
Our grapes grow thicker skins which serve as a natural protection against this intense sun, resulting in greater complexity and deeper color. In the evenings, cool air descends from the mountains and passes through our vineyard, providing welcome relief from the day’s heat. The cooling of our grapes naturally enhances the acidity by slowing the respiration process. This daily heating and cooling creates optimum conditions for robust grape structure, concentration and aromatic intensity.
